5 HAPPY THINGS

Ender EasterWhy is it that Monday always seems so ominous? I always go into Monday’s with the idea that I want them to be rejuvenating and joyful, yet I find that 30 min into my Monday that I am hoping for the weekend again.I want to start this week off right with the joy and patience of Spring – waiting all winter long to sprout and be in full bloom.  Read More

FAR TOO LONG

i cannot believe how long it has been since i have spilled my guts or been creative on here. it has been almost a year and SO much has changed for me. ender-8mo

namely, this little dude. everyone, meet my son Ender! i missed the whole window for birth story, etc etc, but who wants/cares about that anyways? i mean, i read them, but i have no desire to relive mine (unless, of course, it is requested). Ender is the best, i may be biased here, but with him growing and changing every day it’s tough not to get attached to a gorgeous little human.

so, what else is new – i am working in commercial/marketing now (yipee) which is something that i have always wanted to do, i no longer subscribe to any magazines (no time, no waste necessary), i am still in love with my hubs, i still love (let’s be honest, ride or die for) coffee, but with all that i have no creative outlet!

i was trying to think of a way to rehash my blog – more personal pics? outfit posts? style posts? videos like i used to make for youtube? i don’t know what i’m going to do yet, but i am keeping the conversation open.

here’s to a glorious 2017 – and to an even more glorious blog re-launch!

Product Review: MARY KAY Botanical Effects

Today I decided to do something a little different on the blog today – a product review!

I have been using the Mary Kay Botanical Effects Skin Care Four-Piece Set in Formula 3 – Oily Skin since the beginning of my pregnancy – and since I am 7 months, that’s a pretty long stretch of time!

I am in a pretty unique situation. As everything that I breathe, apply, and ingest affects the baby – so I am not in the position, YET, to trial a bunch of different products… Making a review a must! The nice part about this set is that I was able to pick the product level for me: Formula 1 – Dry Skin, Formula 2 – Normal Skin, or Formula 3 – Oily Skin.

Each product set can also be sold as individual pieces so you can individualize your set to your skin needs!

Keep reading for a review on each product that comes in the set!

MONTHLY FAVORITES: January

January has flown by! I just can’t believe it – I know everyone says that, but I truly feel that way!

In no time at all it will be time for my baby shower, then my birthing class, and then the actual birth of my lovely baby boy!

But until then, we still have a few months of favorite items in between!

This past month I have mostly loved the same things, but these are items I have especially loved during the month of January!

Enjoy!

MOSTLY PREGNANCY: Valentines Day Outfits

Valentine’s Day.

We all know its coming because 1 week into the year all of our favorite stores (I’m looking at you Target) start to decorate with red hearts and bring out all the candy.

For us pregnant ladies, the romance and idea behind being wooed by our significant other is a little lost… But, we can still put in the effort to look and feel our best when we do venture out of the house with our beloved.

I will be 30 weeks when Valentine’s Day comes around this year, and probably much bigger than I realize I ever could be – so below I have 9 outfit/dress ideas (all from ASOS) to dress up while going out, but still being comfortably feminine. (Plus 1 killer dress in case that’s your thing).

Enjoy!

SHOP: Wear it NOW, Wear it LATER

There is nothing like a sale to get me in the mood for the end of a season… Sometimes, however, sale items are so specific for the season that has just passed making it hard to work the new purchases into our wardrobe.

Madewell has a great sale going on right now – on a TON of items – especially pieces that can be worn NOW and once Spring starts!

I am getting in the mood for sunnier days and warmer mornings!

PREGNANCY JOURNEY: Favorite Outfits

Favorite MATERNITY Looks

Getting dressed while pregnant is quite an adventure.

Especially since I’m about a week away from my third trimester – so I now feel like I’m heavier – it is becoming more and more of an adventure.

Here are 3 types of outfits that I am loving during my pregnancy. It’s all about comfort and style for me.

Flats are my BFF – and also small, comfy cross-body bags. I have bought some cute staples to add to my closet while in this pregnancy stage, and (although basics) they help make getting dressed a LOT easier!

PREGNANCY JOURNEY: What I Miss

Being pregnant has so many wonderful perks.

  1. I’m growing a human inside of me, and that’s something I’ve always wanted.
  2. I have stronger nails than ever!
  3. My disposition is (overall) less anxious and calmer when feeling stressed.
  4. Etc. etc.

BUT.

There are certain aspects of my regular (non-pregnant self) that I really really miss. So today I decided to share those with you as I get to the last trimester of pregnancy.

SEASONAL FASHION | how to transition from SUMMER to FALL – makeup

Makeup is something that is an important part of my life. I love to apply it – and I love to take it off too! I am really looking forward to changing up my makeup for my transition into fall.

I think that the best way to transition your makeup from Summer to Fall is to look at the runway trends and focus on one aspect to slowly add into your repertoire. Here in California, especially, it is important to be slow and steady with the transition.

So read on for 5 makeup transitions from Summer to Fall!

SEASONAL FASHION | how to transition from SUMMER to FALL – polish

What I love about style and fashion is that you can wear jeans and a t-shirt, but with the addition of a certain color of nail polish and a few well thought out accessories you can take that outfit from Summer to Fall.

I think that nail polish plays a very important role in the transition from Summer to Fall. To me it is the way I can add some Fall drama even when the temperatures are still in the 80’s.

Today I have put together a tried and true guide for how to change up polishes to help transition your look. Enjoy.

SEASONAL FASHION | how to transition from SUMMER to FALL – wardrobe

Ah, fall.

No, I’m not jumping the gun but I am getting my wardrobe ready to start changing into a new season. Here in Southern California we have a weather system that is pretty mild all year round. Spring is warm, summer is hot, fall is only a month or two long (hot during the mid-afternoon), and winter is cool and never really cold.

What I have found that when I am getting dressed I like to work on expanding my color palette more than anything.

Today I have put together my Top 5 Steps to transition my wardrobe from Summer to Fall.

MY TOP 3 | Workouts I Want to Try

Hello hello lovely friends. As you can see from this title, we are talking about working out.

As a former dancer I never really had the push to workout any other way than dance. I wasn’t skinny, but genetics and weekly dance practice / marching band practice kept me in decent form. Once I graduated high school – which was many moons ago – I didn’t have a backup fitness regimen. I thought couldn’t run (asthma), I didn’t play any sports (no desire), and I never really had to ‘think’ about fitness (I was raised a vegetarian and remained do until my high school years). It was soon after I graduated that I realised that I needed to do something.

That’s where yoga came in! I have heart eye’s for yoga for daaaaaaays. I never practiced religiously but I did it at home and once I started at SDSU I really got into it by taking a 1 credit class that forced me to go – it was awesome! Now that I’ve graduated and stopped having the ease/need of a required class I find myself looking for new fitness routines. Here are MY TOP 3 Workouts I Want to Try.

My Whole30/60 | Program Basics

When I first decided to do a Whole30, it was May 2014. I started on May 18th and ended on June 17th. And it was really hard… But also really not hard.

Now, let me explain the my basics.

1 | What IS a Whole30?

A copy of the program rules is here because, lets be honest the amazing creators of the Whole9 / It Starts With Food / and new Whole30 Book can explain it a lot better than me.

But basically the Whole30 is designed to be a re-boot for your body. You break your diet down to the basics – animal proteins, good fats, vegetables, fruits – that’s it! If you’ve heard of the Paleo diet, then you’ve heard of Whole30… Even if you didn’t know it!

2 | Why did YOU do the Whole30?

I did Whole30 because my addiction to sugar was getting out of control. More specifically, CANDY. Even if I would tell myself “I’ll buy this, keep it in a spot I’ll forget about, and only have it once and a while.” That never, EVER happened. I would go into the kitchen to get water, grab a handful of M&M’s. I would be preparing dinner, grab a Twix mini. I would need a snack, and while preparing said snack, grab a couple squares of chocolate. But the real low point… I would start eating candy as. soon. as. I. woke. up. I’m talking still in pajamas, making breakfast – and already eating salt water taffy, dipping a spoon in a jar of caramel, eating a spoonful of ice cream before 7am. I was out of control. I always wondered why I felt so, off. I honestly think it was shame. I couldn’t tell myself no. And I finally had to admit that I needed to change. SUGAR ADDICTION is why I did the Whole30.

3 | How many Whole30’s have you done?

I have done a Whole30 and a Whole60. The Whole60 is just two Whole30’s back to back – easy as that. I’m on Day15 of a Whole60 right now!

4 | Why is the Whole30 HARD and NOT HARD?

I’ve found that Whole30 is a funny thing… More specifically the mindset that you get into while in the midst of it. When you start for the very first time, your body does some weird stuff… You start to have many different emotions and issues within a short amount of time – here is a link talking about the experiences that the It Starts With Food book talks about… And let me tell you I went through exactly the same timeline.

Whole30 is NOT hard because once you get past the first 15 days, you honestly feel like you could do this forever! Eating is easier. You have a groove with checking labels, knowing what recipes you like, realizing that you don’t feel like you are missing out. At all! When I was on Day 15 of my first Whole30 I said to my husband – “I’m going to continue to eat like this after all this is over!” You feel untouchable!

And then it gets hard again. Because you start to question whether you are strong enough to continue to eat Whole30 when you don’t “have to.” Which is why I did a Whole60 from July to September of last year!

5 | Why did you do a Whole60?

Well… When I completed my first Whole30 I didn’t feel confident that the things I learned about my  body would stick. I thought – ‘Oh, dairy is something that doesn’t agree with me!’ – I had froyo 3 days later. ‘Oh, I learned I don’t need sugar to be happy – my addiction is g.o.n.e.’ Did I mention froyo?

So when I thought about all that I learned, I decided – I need more time. And most importantly, more time to figure out what I’m made of, so I decided to do 60 days!

So that’s about it for the intro into My Whole30/60 Program Basics! I will be posting next week about what I have learned and realized this time around about what my Whole30/60 actually needs to be for it to be a super-success!

Thanks a bunch for stopping by!

Monday Favorites…

Happy second week of July!

I can’t believe that June has come and gone so quickly! I love June, but July is a month that I have a LOT of things going on. July 4th is always a day for celebration at our house, but we never really go out and do anything – San Diego is SO busy that weekend. But needless to say, July 4th is amazing due to the fireworks that we watch from our backyard – it’s amazing.

Another fun part of July is Comic Con! We go every day, every year. It is always something that propels my husband and I to digest all of the TV shows that we want to go to panels for, and will always prep for a week before the fun starts! Don’t get me wrong, it is exhausting to navigate downtown, but it’s so worth it. Comic Con will start Wednesday and end Sunday – and we spend over 12 hours a day downtown, over 4 days – plus preview night (Wednesday) which is around 6 hours… It’s a LOT of time. We love it though. I will be taking a lot of pictures and posting about all of our fun times this week.

Now… On to Monday Favorites!

ME / Off-The-Shoulder Culotte Jumpsuit

Dressing for the summer is not an easy feat. The sun is blazing, the ground is hot, and you just don’t feel like getting dressed head to toe. A jumpsuit, romper, or play-suit is my go to look. I love the polished look that a dress gives, but I am usually working from home or cleaning up the house – so I always feel more comfortable with shorts… Rompers, and jumpsuits, are my go to style pick for at home – and quick errand – style. Culotte jumpsuits are something that I love for a day with my family and/or a night out. This is one of the most comfortable jumpsuits ever… I love the color + the culottes… It’s polished but I can move around easily in it. The wedges are a good middle ground too. They are airy, but still sturdy. They make me feel like I can walk a few miles while still giving me some shape to my legs. A win-win!
